CHALLENGE AND ITS A BIG ONE FOR US.....
Ok I have decided we are on a 30 day no food shopping challenge- except- yep EXCEPT ABSOLUTE NEEDS....that means milk, bread, cheese and of course for the addicts diet coke and diet dr.pepper..
We are on day 5 now- and not doing bad. I woke up the other day and said to myself we need to use what we have ....so what does that mean? Unless I have a free coupon that expires no shopping for groceries or extras..nope, no chips, cakes, etc..if we can make it from what we have..then we are ok. I guess I am doing it becuase the budget got a 1,100 car repair bill and a medical bill this month and also a wonderful call from my husbands nurse and dietician..saying he was told he needed to lose weight and its my fault- yep its always the womans fault...Ok so I shove it down his throat huh.
He is officially on a diet..ok no one will go hungry- we have canned food, rice and staples up the yahoo.
Thanksgiving is going to be creative this year, and I figure a little fun becuase we have a small ham- so I am thinking no bird unless one drops at the front door.(haha!).
I am pretty excited because I have actually created some fun food- a little of this and a little of that, a pinch of this and a pinch of that..at least its cold so I can create in the crockpot more. I guess in my head I watched a program on people who have empty cabinets and there is no food, and yes we are on a deep budget and stockpile a little- not filling our garage like some but I do have a bunch on a shelf and the cabinets and deep freezer are full..but we do not go hungry and I felt like maybe we need to stop wanting to eat all the time, and my husband just doesn't go into the kitchen and grab food now...
I know MEAN MEAN woman but he gets a snack for late night laid out for him till breakfast- if he eats it early..thats it (since I make him fat and seem to force him to eat) He is also going to learn what portions are-wish me luck, because he is one that will eat and eat and then say why oh why did I eat so much, so now I am going to do like I do for the little ones, make plates and put aside the extras for another meal.
Here is hoping to an eventful month..cooking, creating and self control (yes - I could stand to lose a few pounds too). Most of all I am appreciating what we have because there are lots and lots off alot better than us but there are alot that are worse off, we need to use and appreciate what we have, and thank God for what He has given us and blessed us with. By the way tonight is a huge pot of chili- this and that thrown in- we call it creative firehouse chili and it tastes good..here is to hoping when the cabinets clear out I shop wiser and healthier in the future and have a cleaner organized kitchen and hubs has at least learned to wait to see if he is hungry- let food settle and hopefully lose a few pounds! Don't feel so bad for him- next week he gets to go pig out at a buffett for veterans, and hope he learns to grab what is a good food and stay away from what is a bad food..but that is one time I said he is in control of himself and will give him a small breakfast earlier in the day.
CREATIVITY AND SELF CONTROL WILL BE THE KEYWORDS FOR AWHILE HERE..EVERYONE WILL GET TO INPUT THEIR IDEAS FOR WHAT GOES AND WILL WORK FROM THERE....(THANK GOD FOR THE HUGE BOTTLE OF TUMS TOO!)
Wow, as someone who goes to the grocery store almost every day, I don't know if I could not go for a whole month. But I also have a ton of food that never gets used up. Good luck!
